Today you’ll learn how to not make mistakes with would like questions on IELTS Speaking Exams.

Recently, a student shared a question she had in the first part of the IELTS Speaking test.

It was, “What is an app that you would like to have?”

She answered by talking about apps that she already had on her phone and really liked.

Wrong answer!

Would like” questions are asking you to talk about a hypothetical futurenot past or present facts.

If you misunderstand the question and provide an answer that is incorrect, that hurts your score.

These question types come up all over the Speaking Exam.

In Part 1, you could also be asked, for instance, about a gift you would like to give someone.
