"The English Adventurer"

In Speaking Part 2, you must speak fluently for 2 full minutes. You must have a lot to say, therefore, to exhibit your cohesion, coherence and fluency.

In fact, you want to have so much to say that the examiner must stop you at two minutes, knowing that you could even speak for longer than that.

One strategy to make sure you have a lot to say is before/during/after.

This means that if you have to describe an event, for instance, you could talk about what happened before, during and after the event.

This can be demonstrated in my sample Speaking Part 2 brainstorm about describing an occasion in which you had a special cake.

Sample Before/During/After Brainstorm:

Occasion and cake: My son’s 6th birthday party

Before: I went to Safeway and picked out a Power Rangers Dino Charge chocolate cake.

During: The party featured a clown, various games, a trampoline, food, and the cake!

After: We played with the new toys and tried out the telescope I got him- it didn’t work though!

The above brainstorm would give me plenty to say, with specific details, for two minutes.

In the next video lesson post, you’ll hear my sample answer, about a different cake occasion, to further demonstrate this strategy.

What special occasion involving cake would you talk about?
