Today you’ll learn high-scoring IELTS vocabulary about burnout.

Also, though, let’s talk about your IELTS motivation and stress.

You have to be conscious about alleviating your IELTS burden, or lessening the pressure of getting your target scores.

One way to do this is to name your stress out loud, to a friend. Get this negative emotion out of your head, and give it to someone else.

When you are ‘in it‘, or too involved in a situation, like studying, it’s tough to see the downsides or harm you could be doing to yourself.

You could also say, ‘can’t see the forest through the trees‘, like when you get too involved in little details and lose track of your bigger goals, the bigger picture.

For instance, don’t get hung up on little sounds you might not say correctly all the time on IELTS Speaking; remember that’s not the bigger picture for pronunciation. Focus more on full expression than little individual sounds.

Now, if you’re approaching burnout, it’s time for detox, just like some people these days play a ‘digital detox‘.

Schedule yourself a few days away from IELTS. Put it in your planner!

Especially if you’re a perfectionist, you have to plan to relax, or you’ll never do it!

Also, having a complete IELTS study plan greatly alleviates stress, so you know you don’t have to do everything at once.

Then, you can just focus on these two or three tasks on your list each day, instead of stressing out.

Finally, you must ‘inject levity‘ into your preparation, meaning to choose material that is interesting and motivating to you.

If you absolutely hate reading newspapers, don’t choose them for your reading practice! You can even read a comic book if you want.

For instance, you can read The Onion, an online newspaper in which none of the articles are real– it’s completely sarcastic and silly.

Spend time with people and material that is ‘jovial‘, or lighthearted and joyful.
