After taking the exam for the 3rd time, Natalia achieved and overall 8 on her IELTS Exam!

3rd time natalia overall 8

Natalia is a linguistic researcher and university instructor from Russia.

Her motivation for taking IELTS is to participate in more international projects.

Even with her extensive background in learning, studying and teaching language and linguistics, she still had to take the exam 3 times in order to achieve her overall band 8.

What’s more, she’s been studying English from the age of 10, and has kept up her exposure and practice in English since then.

The first time she took the exam she got an 8 in Reading, 7 in Speaking, 7.5 in Writing, and a 6.5 in Listening.

Her disappointment in these scores led her to 3 Keys IELTS.

Then, she jumped from a 6.5 to 8 in Listening!

Natalia notes that simply understanding what the speakers are saying is not enough. You must follow the instructions carefully and learn specific listening strategies.

She maintained her 8 in Reading.

There are two keys here: fill your time with extensive reading, and learn the reading strategies.

On her Writing exam, her score actually decreased by half a band.

Basically, she didn’t control her time. Natalia spent 30 minutes on Task 1, and didn’t have time to finish and check her Task 2.

Plus, she felt the formulation of the Task 2 question was difficult to understand.

Also, it was a problem-solution question, and Natalia didn’t answer one of the questions.

The question asked her to talk about causes and solutions. Instead, Natalia focused more on the effects and the problem itself, instead of discussing the causes.

Missing out on half of the question leads to a 5 for Task Response. Still, she got a 7!

Then, she increased her Speaking score by a whole band point, to an 8.

Natalia says that she practiced speaking a lot to do this, including finding speaking partners online, and talking out loud as often as possible.

Her final advice is to not give up, and practice makes perfect!
