Speaking Part 2 goes like this:
- You are given a topic
- You take notes for 1 minute, in English
- You talk for 2 minutes
- The examiner may ask you one follow up question
Taking notes in English is vital, so you aren’t translating while you’re speaking.
That last question, after the 2 minutes, is called the closing question.
It is not important. This question is only there to close Part 2 nicely. So, don’t talk for a long time.
If you just give a sentence or two, that’s enough.
So, why, sometimes, does the examiner not ask you the closing question?

There are two reasons.
The first explanation is that you may have totally misunderstood the topic. That means that the closing questions that the examiner has don’t make sense, and, thus, cannot be used.
Remember, there is leeway. You can go off-topic a bit, but your answer must still be related to the topic.
Make sure that the examiner knows you understand the question before you veer slightly away in your answer.
The other reason you may not be asked the closing question, is if the examiner hasn’t timed the test well so far, and needs to save time.
The examiner is supposed to ask you one more question after your Part 2 talk, but if they don’t ask you, it’s not necessarily a bad sign.
