Today you’ll learn how 3 Keys’ student Leticia achieved band 8 for Writing, and other very high scores!Leticia achieved band 8 writing

Leticia is celebrating a lot– her birthday, New Year’s Day, and an overall 7.5 on her first IELTS Exam!

She received 6.5 in Reading, 7.5 in Listening and Speaking and 8 in Writing.

In order to attend university in Canada, Leticia needed an overall 6.5, but she aimed higher, and nailed it on her first attempt!

Leticia started preparing for IELTS about a year ago, but decided to commit herself to our course a few months before her test date.

She chose the 60 study plan, but had extra days. To fill the additional days, she also had to deal with a reading syndrome that was diagnosed. Thus, overcoming this added challenge was important.

Luckily, IELTS allowed her 25% extra time on her Reading Exam, after receiving her medial report. (They also offered her extra time for the other sections, but she didn’t use it!)

Regarding test preparation, remember to print out all of your practice in order to practice the reading strategies.

Regarding her 8 on Writing, she was accustomed to writing in English, but only emails. So, she didn’t have an idea how to compose an Academic essay.

Leticia says she used every single tip from the course, as well as participating in a Power Hour. In this session with me, she learned to make her support more logical, and this brought her up to that incredible 8!

On test day, her Task 2 question was about advertising and its effects on children. She had a strong opinion about this and was able to express it, using our template and strategies.

Having this outline, she knew exactly how to organize her ideas in ways that fulfill the requirements for a high score.

The brainstorming step is also vital, and Leticia researched various ways of doing this, such as mind-mapping and listing.

You should have all the ideas for your essay in your brainstorm before you write.

Finally, Leticia says do not get hung up on what kind of essay you are writing- just answer the question!
