What are the signs that you are ready for IELTS?

Today we’ll present 3 boxes to check to know if your English level is ready for this challenging exam.

However, these are just the signs that your English ability is ready, but you’ll still need to study the strategies for the exam!

Sign #1: You can understand 80% of a movie in English

Perhaps you don’t understand every single word, but if you can understand overall what the plot was, you’re listening skills are good enough to study IELTS.

Test yourself after you finish the movie. After you finish watching, describe it to yourself for at least 2 minutes.

Sign #2: You can understand the articles in The USA Today newspaper

This periodical is not as high-level as the New York Times, so it is a good check for your reading comprehension.

Don’t use really complex writing, like novels and the NY Times, as your benchmark. These are definitely of a higher level than most of the passages on the IELTS Exam.

Again, test yourself be verbalizing out loud what you just read.

Sign #3: You’re not translating everything from your first language into English

If you’re still translating, it means more hesitations.

You’re saying um’s and uh’s, you’re also using phrases like “Oh, how do you say that in English… what is that word?”

If that describes you, you must improve your fluency before you can face the examiner.

Strengthen the connection between thoughts and words by speaking as much as possible! Every day, read out loud to yourself and narrate as much as you can.

Then, when you can fulfill these three recommendations, you are ready for The 3 Keys IELTS Success System!
