Do you make New Year’s resolutions? What are your IELTS goals this year?

It’s not just about IELTS! Your dreams, your goals for 2017, are bigger than IELTS. Keeping these in mind- studying in the UK, working in Canada, creating a new life for your family in the United States- will motivate you to achieve the scores you need.

Get past IELTS, and move on with your life this year!

In order to do this, you must have solid IELTS goals and an organized study plan. Add the following IELTS tasks to your plan for this year, pass the exam, and move on with your life.

IELTS Resolution #1- Reading

You improve yourself through challenge. This is not an easy reading goal!

Read a trilogy in English is a big undertaking, and will really push your reading comprehension to the next level.

The Hunger Games is a Young Adult series about a dystopian future that has also been made into movies. Committing to a goal like this will really add to your study plan in motivating ways!

A great way to work this into your life and make it doable is to read 10 pages a day. If you are a student in our course, you can add this to your study plan.

IELTS Resolution #2- Listening

Get into authentic podcasts made for an audience of native speakers.

There are so many great comedy podcasts that we’ve already talked about, but, recently, I’ve also been getting into some true crime podcasts like Stranglers.

Another excellent podcast is the The Unmistakable Creative, great for anyone trying to make a career out of creating, such as writers and designers.

Being able to talk about these shows on the Speaking Exam, or using facts and ideas from these programs on the Writing Exam, would really push you up into the 7-8 score range.

IELTS Resolution #3- Writing

Start journaling!

This will help you become a more fluent writer, aiding you in getting your ideas out on paper more easily. This will give you great confidence in your writing.

You can write about anything- your day, your worries, your thoughts. Plus, with all of our online activity these days, we need more practice writing by hand.

Sit down every night for 5-10 minutes and journal. Add this to your study plan.

IELTS Resolution #4- Speaking

Find someone to talk to at the same time every week, and practice speaking in English.

If you’re in our course, you can find speaking partners in our closed Facebook group.

If not, you can choose a friend who is also studying English. Alternatively, you can try to find a language exchange partner.

Put this task in your schedule this week, and find someone to talk to!
