Here is the phrase that you can use:

  • “To make a long story short…”
  • “Long story short…”

Here are a few alternatives:

  • “I’ll give you the short version…”
  • “Basically what ended up happening was…”

When the time gets short towards the end of your answer in Speaking Part 1 or Speaking Part 2 you could throw this expression in at the end to bump up your speaking vocabulary score.
