"The English Adventurer"

What is the key to getting more fluent and confident in English?

The secret is that you have to be okay with making mistakes while you are speaking with natives?

Why? Natives make mistakes too!

It’s about Connection NOT Perfection!

Meet the native speakers!

Today we are meeting native English conversation partner Kaitrin who was part of our Urban English Immersion Program last year and has some great things to share.

Why do natives not speak with perfect English? It’s okay but can be a bit confusing.

In the Urban Immersion Program we have lots of fun and we make mistakes together.

Having non-native speakers helps native speakers realize how much our language doesn’t follow the rules.

Don’t overthink it

We don’t need to be perfect in the way we speak or say things.

This is true for native speakers and non native-speakers alike.

Don’t overthink the grammar.

You are going to make mistakes and that’s okay.

That’s how you learn and gain confidence.

It’s all about having fun together and making connections.

You get to see people and their personalities come out each day.

It’s very rewarding and great for everyone to build relationships.

It’s amazing to see what confidence this builds for the native speakers and the non native speakers alike.

It’s hard to find the words sometimes and that’s normal.

When you find those words and you build up your vocabulary it’s very rewarding.

There is a great increase in confidence when you get to chat together and be silly and just talk.

What did Kaitrin like best about the weekend?

Transitioning through some of the exercises was great.

The phone practice was especially tricky because students and natives couldn’t read each other’s body language.

The skits during Drama Lab were also a lot of fun for everyone!

A good part of your time during this program is to spend time with native speakers and get immersed into the culture and the language.

You will gain confidence out of all of this!

You’ll make friends from all over the world and make great connections.
